IF Delta Goodrem is Australia’s sweetheart, then when it comes to her Irish fiance Brian McFadden, we as a nation should be the jealous ex-boyfriend. So perhaps another title for her is in order, because if the charts are anything to go by, we actually really like the guy.
His latest single Just Say So debuted at No1 one on the ARIA singles charts, with the highest single-week sales on debut recorded this year. He says people have responded well to his latest album, Wall of Soundz, released on April 23, but many are wondering where this new style has come from.
“People are loving the music, but I don’t think they’re making the connection and they’re thinking `This doesn’t really sound like Brian McFadden’,’’ he said.
“My last album suited certain places. This is the first time I feel like I can take a record everywhere because it suits radio everywhere in the world at the moment.’’
Late June sees McFadden embark on a first-stop-America world tour to release and promote his electro-pop offering.
As one third of the judging panel on Australia’s Got Talent, alongside Dannii Minogue and Kyle Sandilands, he will hang around Oz until the finale, but spare no haste in his departure, scheduling it for the very next day. “You see these nutjobs and they’re standing right in front of you and you can see the whites of their eyes and it’s really hard to be honest and tell them they’re a lunatic,’’ he said.
“I don’t mind the people whose parents told them they’re good and they’re not good, but it’s the people who are just mental. You think their parents should be saying `You shouldn’t really be going outside. Don’t worry about going on a TV show, you shouldn’t even be seen in public’.’’
