Nine to Five have a new interview with Brian. Brian talks about the success of ‘Just Say So’, the second single ‘Chemical Rush’, Delta and Australia’s Got Talent. I’ve also added the new photo to the gallery.
Number one single again… congratulations.
It feels absolutely amazing, it’s great. I can`t believe it. I wasn’t expecting this sort of success at all. To be honest with you, my goal after the last record was that if we could break a top 10 single, we’d be onto a winner. And when it went in at number one, I was like, you’ve got to be f***in` shitting me`. I thought it was a joke. And for it then to be the fastest selling song of the year was just incredible. We didn’t even get a gold single on the last album. The album went gold, but none of the singles did. It’s just weird – it`s still surreal. The sound is quite different – are you buying into the whole electro trend?
We actually started writing this album about two years ago, before the electro thing was around and started to enter the mainstream. What do you say to people who criticized you for the use of auto tune?
They obviously haven’t listened to the rest of the album.Tell us about the second single, Chemical Rush.
It’s one of my favorite songs. I know people like Just Say So because it’s number one, but I`m really interested to see what kind of response the other songs get. Is it just a ‘one hit wonder’ or will they like my new stuff? I`m still confused as to whether people are going to accept me doing this music. I`ve seen comments on YouTube and Twitter such as ‘I don`t really like Brian McFadden, but I like this song`
.
What`s it like working on Australia’s Got Talent?
Kyle and I are great friends and Dannii is really beautiful. I didn’t know how things were going to go because she’s such a professional, and Kyle and I are quite loose together. She`s been enjoying it and having a laugh with us, she`s awesome.Have you seen some crazy stuff on the show?
Mental stuff. You know when you watch these kind of TV shows, you see the nutjobs and you think ‘what would I say to this person`. But when you`re so close and can see the whites of their eyes, it`s actually very uncomfortable. It makes you nervous. I don’t know what to say to them. You’re definitely not ‘the mean one`.
I try to be honest. You have to take each contestant as they come. If someone’s an idiot, I`ll tell them they`re an idiot. But sometimes you realize there could be something mentally wrong with a person so you don`t want to say something to upset them. You recently celebrated your 30th birthday?
Absolutely! It was a massive bender; we went for 30 hours straight. Awesome!Did Delta join you?
Yeah, she took a break though. We started at around 2pm and went straight through. She went to bed about 3am, had a good sleep, then joined us later the next afternoon. How are things going with you two?
Everything’s great. I haven’t seen her in a couple of days as she`s touring Asia with Andrea Bocelli. I`m flying to Korea to see her. The two of them together is just so amazing. I love her pop music, but when you see her singing in a classical sense, with big vocals and an orchestra, it`s one of my favourite things in the world.Would you ever consider recording something together again?
There’s a song called Mistakes on the new album, which could potentially work. How is it working together?
We never plan to do a duet. Mistakes was finished as a solo song and Delta said it would work with a female vocal. She just came into the studio and put it down and everyone was like ‘wow`. There were no plans to do a duet; to forge a duet would sound cheesy.Would you ever consider moving back to the UK?
I don`t think a permanent move is ever on the cards. We`re always on the move anyway. But I’m hoping when my children are old enough they can come over here.
